The opening night of the 8th grade tournament concluded with a real barnburner as the A. B. Combs Bearcats and the Willard Warhawks hit the floor. The margin in the game was never more than a couple of buckets, and the outcome would not be decided until the final horn.


The pace of the game hit a fevered pitch from the opening tap. The Warhawks won the early battle with a 13-8 lead. A. B. Combs collected themselves for the second period, and went into the locker room with the 23-22 advantage.

The game went back and forth in the third quarter, with the Bearcats upping their lead by a single point (37-35). Willard took the lead in the fourth quarter, but could not hold on to it as A. B. Combs came away with the 54-51 win.
