The Hazard Bulldogs hooked up with the Letcher Central Cougars last week in a real barnburner. The Bulldogs took the early lead, but could not hold on as the Cougars edged them in the final at bat.


Hazard jumped on top early with two runs in the first inning. Letcher Central answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning (2-1).


The Cougars nabbed the lead in the third inning with two runs (2-3), only to see the Bulldogs tie the game in the following frame (3-3). The lead did not last long as Letcher went back on top 3-4 in the fifth inning.


Hazard took a shot a the comeback in the final inning, but the rally was cut short, and the Bulldogs had to settle for a 4-all tie. The Bulldogs needed to hold the Cougars in the bottom of the inning, but could not, giving up a run, and the game (4-5).


Hazard (4) J.T. Haynes 1 run; Ryan Smith 1 run, 2 hits, and 1 RBI; Griffin Wells 1 hit and 1 RBI; Jacob Roll 1 run and 1 RBI; Coby Cumbow 1 hit and 1 RBI; and Blake Nidiffer 1 run.
