The 8th grade tournament opening round concluded with the A. B. Combs Bearcats and the Robinson Blue Jays. The Bearcats opened the game strong, and were able to use the lead to roll to the 44-30 win.

The A. B. Combs defense caused havoc in the Robinson backcourt early in the game. The Bearcats turned multiple turnovers into easy baskets in transition, spotting them to the 16-2 first quarter lead.

The Bearcats moved way down their bench in the second quarter. The move limited their offensive output, but did not hamper their defensive intensity.

Once again, Robinson was limited to a single field goal. A. B. Combs went into the intermission holding the 22-4 lead.

The Blue Jays caught fire in the third period, and were able to erase a few points off their deficit. However, the Bearcats remained in the lead going into the final six minutes of play (29-18).

A. B. Combs went back to their starters early in the fourth quarter, and put the game on ice. Robinson put together another strong effort, but fell short. The Bearcats moved on in the tournament with the 44-30 win.

Ryan Smith led the way for the Bearcats with 14 points, while Kaleb Jones also had 14 ponts for the Blue Jays.

A. B. Combs (44) Braxton Whitaker 5, Devin Morris 3, Corey Sizemore 8, Austin Combs 2, Ryan Smith 14, Cody Smith 2, Ethan Colwell 3, Braxton Cottongame 5 and Dillon Smith 2.

Robinson (30) Dustin Roberts 10, Tanner Pratt 4, Kaleb Jones 14, and Nick Sebastian 2.
