HAZARD – The Perry County Board of Education will meet for a special called meeting on Thursday to consider whether or not John Paul Amis will remain superintendent of the county school district.
On Tuesday the Herald received notice for the meeting, the agenda of which includes two business items, one to consider the acceptance of Amis’s resignation or retirement, and the other to consider termination of his contract. The meeting is set to be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 27 at the board’s central office in Hazard.
The board was set to take up the issue of terminating Amis’s contract earlier this month, though the meeting was later cancelled for unspecified reasons.
Amis, who has been superintendent of Perry County Schools since the 1990s, did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday morning.
