The very last team to ever win a championship on Paul Ray Alexander Field recently finished their season 14-0.

The A.B. Combs and Willard Elementary fourth and fifth grade Bengals were able to win the county championship, and Assistant Coach Tim Owsley said that this team was a great example of sportsmanship and skill.

“I was just so excited about this team,” said Owsley. “Not only that we went 14-0, but the way we played. We played as a unit.”

During the season the Bengals only had one team score any points against their defense, Owsley noted, adding that all 24 players were talented and pulled their weight on the team. He believed that it was the depth of the talent on their bench that helped the team have such a successful season.

“This year was probably the first year that we have had in five years all that we had everybody come together and played,” said Owsley. “Not one player sat on that bench and did not participate.”

The team is coached by head coach James Napier, and assistants Owsley, Bob Hunt, Ken Amburgey, and Randall Howard. These coaches emphasized the importance of being a team. “Our victory song has always been family,” said Owsley. “Because we are a family.”
