CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men’s basketball coach Cliff Ellis has named Matt Hurt director of basketball operations. Hurt, a native of the Lotts Creek community in Knott County, has been a part of the Coastal men’s basketball program for the past two seasons.

Hurt’s duties as director of basketball operations include organizing team travel, practice and day-to-day scheduling, responsibility of team managers, budget, while also serving as director of the Cliff Ellis Team Summer Camps.

He first came to CCU as a graduate assistant for the 2010-11 season. He helped handle the team’s equipment, academic supervising, team travel and video editing. Prior to the 2011-12 season, he was hired as the team’s video coordinator. He handled all video editing responsibilities as well as helping with the day-to-day operations of the men’s basketball program.

Prior to his arrival at Coastal, Hurt spent one season as the men’s basketball assistant coach at Pikeville College. He assisted in all aspects of running the program including recruiting, scouting, on floor coaching and video editing. He also served as the camp coordinator for all of Pikeville’s basketball camps and as the team’s academic coordinator.

Hurt also has experience at the high school level where he was an assistant coach for four seasons. He spent the 2008-09 season at Knott County Central High School, where his team achieved a 22-9 record and was ranked in the top 25 in the state. Prior to KCCHS, he spent three seasons at Cordia High School. He was promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2007-08 season.

Hurt graduated from Alice Lloyd College in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in social studies education grades 5-12.
