Early last week, the Hazard Bulldogs hosted the Prestonsburg Blackcats in high school soccer. The Bulldogs fell behind early, but came back to tie the game.

The Bulldogs controlled play throughout the first half, but gave up a goal to the Blackcats early on a defensive error. The 1-0 score went to the half.

In the 54th minute, Hazard picked up the equalizing goal. Kevin Eversole hit a corner kick to Bryant Fugate inside the 6-yard box. Fugate timed the pass beautifully, and knocked it in left-footed (1-1). Neither team scored down the stretch, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

“We possessed the ball well in the first half, but got away from that in the second half,” said Hazard Coach Stephen Wayne. “Spencer Hansen’s play was stout down the stretch, and freshman James Counts locked down Prestonsburg’s top attacker in the second half to preserve the tie.”
