HAZARD – A house on Crawford Mountain in Perry County was a complete loss following a devastating fire late Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the home of Johnny Begley, a sergeant with the Kentucky State Police, according to Hazard Fire Chief Sam Stacy. The house was located at Meadowbrook Terrace.

Begley and his wife were home at the time the fire started, but Stacy noted that both made it out of the house safely. A firefighter at the scene did suffer minor injuries while working to knock down the fire.

No cause for the fire has yet been determined, Chief Stacy added, but it does appear that it began either in the garage or in a room directly above it.

Several agencies responded to the fire, including the Hazard, Avawam, and Jakes Branch fire departments.
