HAZARD – A Perry County man will likely be sentenced to serve five years in prison on allegations that he attempted to burn down another man’s house.
Christopher Caudill, 43, of Hazard, was indicted in May on charges of second-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree persistent felony offender. According to the indictment, he was alleged to have started a fire on March 29 with the intent to destroy or damage a house owned by Paul Mounce.
Caudill appeared in Perry Circuit Court on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of third-degree arson, a Class D felony that carries a maximum of five years in prison. He also pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal mischief, while the third count alleging persistent felony offender will be dismissed, according to the plea agreement.
In exchange for his plea, Caudill could serve up to five years in prison, and he will also be required to pay $6,500 in restitution. He will appear again for a formal sentencing on Thursday, Oct. 18.
