HAZARD — A Perry County man wanted for murder is currently hospitalized after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Adrian Banks, 44, was indicted in August for the murder of Jerry Combs. Police say on Aug. 4 Combs was stabbed to death in his home on Walker Branch Road in the Allais community. Kentucky State Police Det. Billy Pollard launched an investigation which led to the indictment of Banks earlier this month.

Police had yet to locate Banks after the indictment was returned. However, police say on Friday night he was admitted to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center after what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Representatives at the medical center said on Monday that they could not confirm that he was still at the hospital or his condition due to the nature of the incident.

Det. Pollard said Banks had not been served with the indictment as of Monday, and won’t be until his condition improves. He added that Banks was listed on a national data base of wanted fugitives and is not sure if the authorities in Tennessee will serve him with the indictment or if they will wait until he can be transferred back to Kentucky.
