The 51st Annual National Day of Prayer, held on the first Thursday of May, was celebrated at the amphitheater in Hazard Thursday afternoon. The National Prayer, this year written by Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in California, was read aloud just after noon at the same time in cities all over the nation. The Perry County Central Junior ROTC led the audience in reciting the pledge of allegiance and later performed a choreographed performance piece in honor of all prisoners of war (POWs) from every branch of the U.S. Military over the decades.
