Perry Central boys’ basketball coach Allan Hatcher resigned last week, and will reportedly take over as the new coach in Logan, West Virgnia.
The Perry Central boys’ basketball team will have a different look for the upcoming season as head coach Allan Hatcher resigned last week, reportedly to take a coaching position in West Virginia.
Hatcher, whose teams at Perry Central were instantly identifiable by their slower-paced offensive style, did enjoy some success during his tenure in Perry County. His teams made one appearance at the Sweet 16 in 2011 and also captured a district title in 2009.
Hatcher came to Perry Central in 2007, following a stint in Graves County, going 14-19 in his first season with the Commodores, which would also be his only losing season. During his second season he coached the Commodores to a 25-6 record and a district title, defeating Hazard 45-42 before going on to lose to the Bulldogs in the region championship. Hatcher amassed an overall record of 108-45 while at Perry Central.
Hatcher has reportedly accepted a coaching position in Logan, West Virginia. Sports Columnist Ira Combs reported that Hatcher retired from his teaching duties at Perry Central during the summer, but had planned on remaining at Perry Central as coach. He notified the administration there of his resignation just last week.
A call made to Perry Central seeking comment was not immediately returned on Monday, and no replacement has been announced.
