HAZARD — A bus driver in Perry County was injured during crash on Highway 80 Monday near the city limits.
Police say 56-year-old Timothy Tucker was driving a school bus owned by the Perry County School District east toward Hindman when the vehicle left the road and hit the side of the mountain before being spun around and facing traffic.
There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident, though Tucker was injured and transported to the Hazard ARH, where Det. Adam Baker with the Hazard Police Department said Tucker suffered an injury to his head and possibly to his shoulder. Tucker’s injuries were not life threatening.
The accident apparently happened when Tucker was traveling east near the construction site of the new elementary school on Highway 80 when a white vehicle veered into his lane. It was raining at the time, and when Tucker hit his brakes to avoid the other vehicle, he told police that he lost control and hit the hillside, Baker said.
No other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were reported.
