Perry Central’s Whitney Back got the win on the mound against Leslie County in the Tim Short Classic.
The Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Tim Short Classic this past weekend, opening with the Leslie County Lady Eagles.
Neither team was able to push a run across the plate for the majority of the game. At the end of the fifth inning the game was still scoreless, and time was running out.
Perry Central finally broke the ice in the sixth inning with a single run. Whitney Back got aboard with a single, and then stole second. Back would then score on a hit by Shaelyn Eversole. Leslie County would not score in the bottom of the frame, giving the Lady Commodores the win.
Perry Central stats: Whitney Back 1 hit and 1 run, Shaelyn Eversole 1 hit and 1 RBI and Katey Pigman 1 hit. Whitney Back 0 runs, 4 hits, 9 strikeouts and 2 walks.
In their second game, the Lady Commodores took on the Powell County Lady Pirates. The Lady Commodores struggled in this contest, and fell 11-5.
Both teams would get their first runs of the game in the second inning. However, it would be Powell County that would come out on top 4-3.
The Lady Pirates would inch further ahead in the third inning as they added another run (5-3). The Lady Commodores would tie the score in the sixth inning (five-all), but could not hold on as Powell County exploded for six runs in the sixth inning, slamming the door on the Lady Commodores 11-5.
Perry Central stats: Maddison Minks 1 hit and 1 RBI, Pam Sebastian 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI, Whitney Back 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI, Rachel Curry 2 hits, Hannah Johnson 1 run, Shelby Sheffield 1 hit and 1 run, and Lana Shepherd 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI. Shelby Sheffield 11 runs, 12 hits, 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Perry Central closed out the Tim Short Classic with the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Commodores did not get their offense started until late, but by then it was too late to pull off the win.
Both teams broke into the scoring column in the third inning, with Lawrence County taking the 4-1 advantage. Neither scored again until the fifth inning, and again, it was the Lady Bulldogs with the advantage (5-3).
Lawrence County would score the only other run of the game, giving them the 6-3 win, and ending Perry Central’s tournament.
