The Perry County Central High School wrestlers traveled to Lexington on Friday to compete in the state tournament at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Senior Cody Hollon, who at 220 pounds is one of the state’s top wrestlers, placed 7th individually with a 4-2 record during the tournament.
Hollon dispatched Boyle County’s Austin Muntz in 39 seconds, and came out with a win against Henry Clay’s Zack Cooper in a 6-4 decision. The first of his two losses in the tournament came on an 8-6 decision against Charlie Cornett of Dixie Height, before Hollon rebounded against Franklin County’s Jose Rebolledo. He dropped a match against Brendan Darrow of Trinity, and picked up his fourth win against Chris Fitzpatrick of Anderson County.
Several other Perry wrestlers competed Friday and Saturday in the two-day affair, including senior Jonathan Begley. At 285 pounds, Begley scored a record of 1-2.
Senior Roger Bivens, at 160 pounds, scored a record of 1-2.
Senior Darien Bauer, at 152 pounds, went 0-2 in the tournament.
Junior Chance Neace, at 145 pounds, went 0-2.
Senior Brad Williams, at 132 pounds, picked up two wins and two losses.
Junior Patrick Coots, at 126 pounds, went 0-2.
Freshman Brad Colwell, at 106 pounds, went 0-2 as well.
