Police in Hazard say they seized approximately two ounces of marijuana and different pieces of drug paraphernalia during an arrest Sunday on Jordan Street.
HAZARD – Two Perry County men were arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana this past weekend.
Police had previously received several complaints about a residence on Jordan Street prior to Sunday evening, noted Det. Adam Baker with the Hazard Police Department. That’s when officers returned the house while responding to a noise complaint.
Baker said when he arrived at the residence he heard children playing inside, and when a male subject opened the front door there was a strong smell of marijuana. He said he contacted social services for the children and obtained a warrant to enter the residence.
“The smell of marijuana was enough probable cause for the search warrant,” Baker said.
A K-9 unit with Kentucky State Police arrived and conducted a sweep of the home, Baker said, after which officers located approximately two ounces of marijuana, some of which was prepared in small baggies, along with multiple pieces of paraphernalia including pipes and bongs.
Baker said it was apparent that marijuana was being sold at the residence, and one of the two men arrested admitted to “running a trafficking operation out of the house.”
The two men, 31-year-old Timmithy R. Williams and 29-year-old James E. Rockey, both of Hazard, were arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rockey was additionally charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. The children inside the home were aged five and seven years old, according to the arrest citation.
