COMBS —A Perry County man is facing drug dealing charges after police say he was caught with more than 180 pills and hundreds of dollars in cash.
Deputy Bruce Fields with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Clifton Plowman of Hazard on charges of possession, trafficking, and resisting arrest after Fields stopped Plowman’s vehicle at a tobacco store in Combs. Fields said the sheriff’s office had received a tip reporting that drug trafficking was taking place in the area.
Plowman and another man were inside a purple van when Fields arrived on the scene.
“I found him at the tobacco store and they both had warrants,” said Fields, adding that the second man, identified as 28-year-old Joseph Riley of Hazard, ran from the scene. Riley was later arrested by deputies near Cherokee Hills, he noted.
Fields said that he saw Plowman fumbling with items in the car, so once he arrested Plowman on a warrant in a separate case, Fields asked if he could have consent to search the vehicle.
“I asked him if I could search the vehicle and he said no, so I arrested him on the warrant, and then obtained a search warrant,” said Fields. “Inside the vehicle I found Xanax, hydrocodone, methadone, and oxycodone.”
Further search turned up $1,400 in cash, and another $92 in Plowman’s wallet. All totaled, 183 pills and three half pills were allegedly found in unmarked prescription bottles in the floor boards of the van.
“When I got up with him he said he hadn’t been selling, but none of the pills were in prescription bottles and he wouldn’t advise any further as to how he got them,” said Fields.
The evidence of the pills and the cash, along with the tips they had received, added up to several charges of trafficking. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also found in the van, according to the citation.
Plowman was charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking, one count of second-degree trafficking, three counts of third degree-trafficking, possession of marijuana, three counts of controlled substance not in original container, and resisting arrest.
Both he and Riley have faced drug-related charges in the past, according to court records.
