HAZARD — A Knott County woman was recently arrested in Perry County on a shoplifting complaint, and was also allegedly found with thousands of dollars in cash and over 100 pills.
Amelia Hudson, 29, of Kite, was allegedly caught shoplifting $39.58 worth of merchandise from Walmart on March 25. According to the police citation, Walmart loss prevention officers stopped her after she had passed the cash registers and was headed out of the building.
Officers with the Hazard Police Department were called to the scene where they searched Hudson’s purse. According to the citation, she was visibly under the influence and barely able to stand during the search.
As officers searched her belongings, they found nearly $2,500 and a red jewelry box filled with different pills, the citation notes. The pills were identified by poison control as three different strengths of oxycodone, hydrocodone, two strengths of Xanax, and the legend drug atenolol. Two additional kinds of pills that were not able to be identified were also allegedly found.
All totaled, police report that they found 98 pills at the scene. Hudson also had two outstanding warrants stemming from prior offenses.
Hudson was transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail on charges of shoplifting, public intoxication, drug paraphernalia, first, second, and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, illegal possession of a legend drug and 11 counts of controlled substance not in original container.
While in jail, a search of her person allegedly turned up an additional 53 Xanax tablets, giving Hudson an additional charge of promoting contraband.
