A wreck on the Hazard bypass sent two people to the hospital Friday morning.

Two witnesses on the scene said that a black Chevrolet Trailblazer was behind another car when the front vehicle pulled on to the bypass from the Bluegrass exit. The first car barely avoided a collision with oncoming traffic, but the driver of the SUV wasn’t so lucky when a white Ford Explorer traveling south with state official tags collided with the side of the Chevrolet.

According to the witness, the accident happened so fast that the driver of the state vehicle did not have time to hit his brakes.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital. The driver of the state vehicle appeared to have only minor injuries, whereas the other driver, a female, seemed to have more serious injuries.

Chief Minor Allen of the Hazard Police Department said accidents like this one are common at this intersection, and he has seen similar collisions in this same spot since he has been on the force. He added that these accidents can be avoided by people paying attention and being safe in this intersection.
