The Hazard Lady Bulldogs hosted the Perry County Central Lady Commodores on Saturday in the soccer version of the Black Gold Cup. The Lady Commodores jumped out to the early lead, and held on for the 5-1 victory.

Perry Central got on the board first with a goal in the 13th minute. Ashley Morris took a pass from Brandi Campbell and placed it in the back of the net.

A few minutes later, Hazard collected a free kick after a foul outside the box. Amanda Asher took the kick and bent it into the upper 90, just outside the reach of the goalie (1-1).

The Lady Commodores wasted little time erasing the goal as Brandi Campbell dribbled through the defense and took a shot one-on-one with the goal. The shot passed through the goalie’s legs for the 2-1 lead.

Campbell collected her second goal of the game just minutes later. This time Campbell took a crossing pass from Kelsey Lowe and fired in a hard shot past the goalie.. The Lady Commodores took the 3-1 lead into the break.

Perry Central picked up an early goal in the second half. Sarah Melton dribbled through the Hazard defense and shot a ball into the box where Kelsey Lowe collected it and deposited it in the goal (4-1).

With time running out in the contest, Brandi Campbell completed her “hat-trick” with a goal. Dallas Coots picked up a ball in front of the net and pushed it back to Brandi Campbell outside the box. Campbell fired the shot from 25-yards out, and hit the back of the net.

The Lady Commodores went on to win the game by the final count of 5-1.

Hazard stats: Goals: Amanda Asher 1.

Perry Central stats: Goals: Brandi Campbell 3, Ashley Morris 1 and Kelsey Lowe 1. Assists: Dallas Coots 1, Sarah Melton 1, Kelsey Lowe 1 and Brooke Campbell 1.
