HAZARD – Officers with the Hazard Police Department on Tuesday seized multiple pills and more than $16,000 in cash while investigating a tip at a local motel.
The tip was called in to the department just after 9 p.m. Tuesday night, said Lt. Randy Napier, reporting drugs and cash inside a room at America’s Best Value Inn on Morton Blvd.
Several officers responded to room 219 , where they made contact with a female subject. At that time, Napier said a man identified as 38-year-old Johnny Clark of Viper returned and gave consent for officers to enter the room.
“He gave us consent to come in, and we searched the room,” Napier said. “At that point, that’s when officers found after searching the room around $16,515.”
Authorities also reportedly located 25 and one-half 30 mg oxycodone tablets and approximately one gram of suspected cocaine.
“Mr. Clark was Mirandized, and he basically agreed to talk to us and told us that everything was his in the room,” Napier added.
Napier said the large amount of cash along with the number of pills led to Clark being charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, though other charges could be added once the case goes to the grand jury.
Clark was transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard. The female subject in the room was not charged.
Officers were supported by detectives with HIDTA and the Kentucky State Police’s Drug Enforcement and Special Investigations branch.
