Last week, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs participated in the 54th district volleyball tournament held at Buckhorn. The Lady Bulldogs blew through the competition, capturing the title in the minimum number of games (6).

In their opening match, the Lady Bulldogs took on the host Buckhorn Lady Wildcats. Hazard was on top of their game as they quickly swept the Lady Wildcats in three games.

In game one, Hazard got off to a slow start, but soon picked up the pace. The Lady Wildcats went on to win the game by the final score of 25-8.

The momentum stayed with the Lady Bulldogs throughout the match as they took the next two games easily. In game two, Hazard began to find their groove and end with the 25-9 win. Game three was ended almost as soon as it started, and Hazard collected the 25-2 win, and a spot in the finals.

Hazard stats: Sarah Pratt 2 kills, 21 assists, 1 block and 3 aces, Maddison Niece 14 kills and 18 aces, Paige Williams 1 kill and 3 aces, Lindsey Branson 2 kills and 2 digs, Marjorie Hammonds 6 kills, 3 digs and 10 aces, Krystann Thies 3 kills, Chandler Maggard 5 aces.

In the championship game, the Hazard took on the Leslie County Lady Eagles. The Lady Bulldogs would have a difficult time of things, but would need but three games to end the match and collect the trophy.

In the first game, Hazard got off to a good start, and built a big lead. Late in the game, Leslie County began to make their move.

The Lady Eagles made a strong rally, and tied the game at 23. However, the Lady Bulldogs were able to recover, pulling out the 25-23 win.

Things went a little easier for Hazard in the second game as they pulled out to an early lead, and this time held on. The Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the match with the 25-14 win.

The third game would prove to be a struggle for the Lady Bulldogs. Once again, they enjoyed an early lead, but allowed the Lady Eagles get back in the game. Hazard, again, pulled out the win at the last moment, taking the 25-23 win, and the 54th district title. Sarah Pratt was named tournament MVP.

Hazard stats: Sarah Pratt 2 kills, 15 assists, 2 blocks and 1 ace, Maddison Niece 7 kills, 3 digs and 3 aces, Paige Williams 5 kills and 5 aces, Lindsey Branson 1 block, Marjorie Hammonds 7 kills, 2 digs and 6 aces, Krystann Thies 3 kills, 2 digs and 6 aces and Chandler Maggard 4 aces.
