HAZARD — A Perry County man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal wreck on Highway 15 nearly nine months after the accident.

Cory Carroll, 21, of Busy, was indicted last week on several charges stemming from the collision. Carroll was allegedly under the influence, according to the indictment, which directly caused the crash and led to the death of one person while injuring two others.

On August 22, 2011 Carroll and a passenger were traveling along Highway 15 near Ride Center USA and Hazard Fire and Safety Equipment when Carroll’s vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle being driven by Wesley Napier. The collision caused the front end of both trucks to be pushed into the cabs.

A passenger in Napier’s vehicle, 28-year-old Arizona Vires of Krypton, passed away as a result of her injuries sustained in the collision. Napier reportedly suffered serious injuries in the accident, as did Summer Dawahare, a passenger in Carroll’s vehicle.

Carroll was reported to have sustained minor injuries, and is now facing charges of murder, first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, and reckless driving.

His bail is set at $500,000 cash.
