Another new business has just opened near Hazard.

Misty Thies and her husband, Daniel, had been thinking about opening a second business for five years. They had owned and operated Professional Pharmacy in Airport Gardens for a few years, and when a new space opened up nearby, they quickly moved to open the Mommy and Me Boutique, which offers clothing for boys, girls and mothers in a variety of colors and styles.

Thies was a nurse before starting a family, and since then she has been a stay at home mom. She said it feels good now to be back at work in such a unique business.

The new boutique is also in a brand new building in Airport Gardens, owned by Sportsworld owner David Naiper. Misty said she and Daniel had been hoping to open the business for several years, and knew that the time was right when the space became available.

“My husband and I have talked about it for about five years, and my youngest little boy will be starting school soon, so we just decided to go ahead,” said Thies.

The name Mommy and Me Boutique was the idea of Misty and Daniel after they had considered several other names. Misty said that she and her husband wanted to make sure the store catered not just to the children, but the moms too.

Thies said it is important to her to bring a business like this to Hazard since being a mom herself, she knows the difficulty in finding quality children’s and women’s clothing.

“We don’t have a huge selection around here, we always go out of town to shop,” she said.

Thies added that while she is the mother of little boys, she said that it has been exciting to order the clothing for girls as well. She and her sister, Becky Holbrook, who has been heavily involved in the opening of the business, have been selecting the brands.

Holbrook has been involved in the project since the beginning, and is now working as the store manager. Along with Thies and Holbrook, they have hired Brandi Hoskins, Kelsie Handshoe and Kaitlyn Combs to work in the store.

The store officially opened its doors on June 11. Thies said that they have been busy for the last week and have gotten great reviews on the store, location and selection.

“A lot of people talk about how nice it is and (that) we have a good selection,” said Thies.

Among the many ways the store caters to busy moms is the child friendly atmosphere. They have a play area for kids, also offer layaway, which Thies said has been very popular as parents get a head start on school shopping.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. It is located directly next to Sportsworld in Airport Gardens. Every Monday they will roll out different sales that will last for the entire week.

If you cannot get to the store you can find out more about it on their Facebook page, Mommy & Me Boutique.
