Hazard opens district with win over Buckhorn
Hazard and Buckhorn kicked off the 2013 54th district baseball tournament. The Wildcats got on the board first but could not hold on for the win against the powerful Bulldogs. Hazard got off to a slow, but steady start, rolling up runs a little at a time. The Bulldogs exploded late in the contest as Jordan Olinger and Even Whitaker both hit home runs, helping Hazard to end the game early 11-1.

Perry Central and Leslie County concluded the opening round of the 54th district tournament. The Eagles got on the board first, but could not stop the determined Commodores. Leslie County posted three runs in the top portion of the first inning, while the Commodores countered with two in the bottom of the frame. Tthe Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers last week. The Lady Commodores lost to the Lady Cavaliers 9-0 in the first week of the season, but were able to avenge the loss with a 4-2 win. The Hazard Bulldogs hosted the Pikeville Panthers last week. The Bulldogs won the teams’ first meeting of the season 3-1 at Pikeville. The Bulldogs had a strong first inning, scoring five runs. The Perry County Little League season continued this past week, at Perry County Park. In the first game, the Cubs overcame the Dodgers by a final score of 17-8.
