Fannie Young of Austin, Indiana was arrested as the result of a call to Perry County Sheriff Pat Wooton reporting the sale of drugs in room 214 at the motel.
Sheriff Wooton got the information, and at 11:56 p.m., he relayed it to Deputy Glenn Smith. Smith was
at the end of his shift and on his way home when Sheriff Wooton called. Deputy Smith contacted Deputy Mike Campbell to assist and went to the motel.
When Deputy Smith found the room he knocked and received consent to search. Once inside, Smith noticed a large amount of drugs on the dresser, including OxyContin, but they were in bottles prescribed to Young, according to police.
Deputy Smith and Deputy Campbell said they began looking around the room in other places, and when they lifted one of the pillows they found a pill bottle that was not one of Young's prescriptions.
The medicine prescribed in this bottle had been Predisone, a steroid often prescribed for allergies and breathing difficulties. When they opened the bottle they allegedly found 15 Vicodin tablets. Vicodin contains Hydrocodone, a narcotic pain-reliever used in the treatment of pain.
Another problem with the prescription bottle was the name on the label, Homer Deaton. Deaton died on Friday, November 26th.
While Deputy Smith was looking at Fannie Young's identification, her husband said, "The state of Indiana makes you get one of those if you're on welfare."
Deputies Smith and Campbell also found $800 in cash and a pill cutter. Young was allegedly charged with second-degree trafficking controlled substance, second-degree possession controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in the original container, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Young was lodged in the Perry County Detention Center.
