The Hazard Bulldogs returned to the field this week in preparation for the upcoming 2006 football season. The Bulldogs will be fielding a young team, but are anxious to get the new season started.

On Friday, Hazard completed their first week of practice by taking to the field in helmets and shoulder pads. The team went through their plays with only light hitting and contact, which was ended by a quick whistle. Coach Mark Dixon said, "It allowed us to get an early look at what we have."

The Bulldogs will field a young team this year, with a large freshman group. However, numbers are almost equally distributed between classes.

Hazard beefed up their schedule this year in hopes of being better prepared come playoff time. Coach Dixon commented, "We look forward to a good season. We have some good teams coming in, and are hoping the tougher schedule will help in the playoffs."

The Bulldogs will play Danville in the Black Gold Bowl, and will bring in Harlan early in the season. Under the new alignment that will take place in 2007, the Green Dragons will be in Hazard's district.

Hazard will begin their scrimmages the first week in August, on the road in Leslie County.
