The Hazard Bulldogs will start the 2007 football season in a new district. Although the Bulldogs will not have to play their traditional rivals, and always tough Pikeville and Paintsville, they will be taking on some tough competition.
The new district will include some major hitters in the high school football ranks, such as Cumberland, Harlan and Lynn Camp. All teams that Hazard is very familiar with.
Hazard just returned from summer camp this past week, and Coach Dixon said that things were going well. “We worked hard, and got better everyday. That is all that we can ask,” Coach Dixon said of his week. He later added, “We are still young, but we have some experience as last year’s freshmen and sophomores got some playing time.”
As of now, the Bulldogs will be suiting up around 30 players. They will be returning their talented quarterback, Tyler Olinger, and two favorite targets in Joey Meehan and Michael Campbell. However, the offensive line will have but one returning starter.
On the other side of the ball, Hazard will be returning eight of its starters. Along the line, three players with experience will be on the field. This will probably be the Bulldogs’ strong point at the start of the year, and will be counted on to hold things together while the others come along.
Hazard will be playing a pair of scrimmage games to start the season. The first will be on Friday, August 10 at Leslie County, and the second on August 17 at Belfry.
