Lady Bulldogs take third in Classic

This past weekend, the Hazard Lady Bulldogs took part in the East Kentucky Mountain Classic volleyball tournament held at the Sherman Neace Center. The Lady Bulldogs had a rough road through the tournament as they started the event with the eventual champions, the Whitley County Lady Colonels. Hazard was able to rebound to take third place in the event.

In their first game, the Lady Bulldogs took on eventual champions, the Whitley County Lady Colonels. The Lady Bulldogs started well in the first game, but faded midway through. The Lady Colonels went on to take the first game 25-15.

Hazard regrouped for the second game and picked up the pace. However, it would not be enough as Whitley County ended the match with a 25-18 win in the second game.

Arielle Engle: 1 kill, Victoria Combs: 1 dig and 2 assists, Gabby Spencer: 1 dig and Lauren Combs: 1 ace and 1 dig.

For the second match, the Lady Bulldogs moved down to the loser’s bracket where they took on the Estill County Lady Engineers. The Lady Bulldogs were back on their game for this contest as they easily disposed of the Lady Engineers in two games.

In the first game, Hazard started slow, but picked up the pace midway through. The Lady Bulldogs went on to win the game 25-16.

The Lady Bulldogs carried the momentum over to the second game where they cruised to the easy win. Hazard moved on in the tournament with a 25-10 win, giving them the match.

Arielle Engle: 7 kills, Lauren Combs: 1 ace, Madison Mobelini: 2 kills, Michelle Caudill: 1 assist and 1 dig, Tayler Niece: 5 kills, Victoria Combs: 1 dig, 2 kills, and 11 assists, and Caitlyn Housley: 1 dig, 1 ace and 1 kill.

Hazard continued on in the tournament to take on the Piarist Lady Knights. The Lady Bulldogs easily defeated the Lady Knights 25-9 in the first game. However, Piriast upped their game in the second, pushing Hazard. The Lady Bulldogs, however, were more than up to the challenge and came away with the 25-17 win, giving them the match.

Arielle Engle: 5 kills and 1 dig, Caitlyn Housley: 1 ace and 1 dig, Victoria Combs: 5 assists, Tayler Niece: 1 kill, Maggie Davidson: 1 ace and 1 dig, Michelle Caudill: 1 dig, Madison Mobelini: 1 kill and Gabby Spencer: 1 ace.

In their next game, the Lady Bulldogs took on the Perry County Central Lady Commodores. Hazard had considerable leads in both games during the match, but could not hold on as Perry Central continued on in tournament play with 25-23 and 26-24 wins.
