Officials with the Department for Natural Resources said that a Leslie County man was injured in a Perry County Coal Mine last Tuesday night.

Linda Potter, with the Department for Natural Resources, said that Bryan Roark, a roof bolter at the E-3-1 Mine, was struck by a scoop on the roof bolter and sustained injuries to both of his legs.

Roark, who is from War Branch in Leslie County, was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Tennessee.

The accident, which occurred around 9:27 p.m., is under investigation by the Office of Mine Safety and Licensing.

“We did an investigation and are monitoring progress with his injuries,” Potter said.
