Antoinette Buchanan, 89, passed away on Sunday, September 9 at her home in Hazard.
She was born on June 22, 1923 in Danville to the late Samuel L. Freeman and the late Mary T. Freeman, and was also preceded in death by her husband, I.H. Buchanan, Jr. and brothers Vincent Freeman and Guy Freeman.
Toni attended Center College in Danville and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hazard, where she was active in the Sunday School department. She was the 1994 Hazard Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year and worked as a real estate agent for Martha Greer Realty. She also served as an operator of the Hazard airport and was instrumental in the development and advancements of aviation in Perry County. Toni was a caring and compassionate lady, always thinking of and doing for others.
She is survived by one son, Isaac “Sonny” Buchanan III and wife Elizabeth; daughters Elizabeth Settle Shaw and husband Dennis, Catherine Cornett Smith and husband Rodney; sister Lucy Tucker; grandchildren Stephanie Cornett, Patrick Hunter Cornett, Kathryn Settle, Evan (Michele) Settle, Katie (Timothy) Deaton, Kirsten (Joseph) Engle, and Jessica Buchanan; great-grandchildren Isaac Deaton, Evan Deaton, Caleb Engle and Joshua Engle; nieces Annette Stoll Phillips and husband Tom, Sally Stoll Glisson and husband Tim, and Becky Stanley and husband Steve; nephews Charles S. Stoll and Mark Freeman and wife Vicky, along with a host of family & friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard. The visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 13 at the First Presbyterian Church. Services will immediately follow with Rev. Ellen Peach and Joe Engle officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Jeff.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations to be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
