Last week, the Hazard Bulldogs hosted the Letcher Central Cougars in high school soccer action. The Bulldogs came up just shy (3-2) in a hard fought and physical match.

Letcher Central got on the board first with a goal at the 16 minute mark. The Cougars lost another goal due to an offside call, sending them to the locker room with the 1-0 lead.

The Cougars got a free kick early in the second half, but were turned away again as Hazard goalie Spencer Hansen made a diving save, keeping the game in reach. However, the Cougars would score on their next shot (2-0).

Hazard got on the board two minutes after the Letcher goal as Gary Kilburn was fouled in the box, and converted the penalty kick (2-1).

At the 77th minute, the Cougars pushed their margin to 3-1. But, Hazard quickly went to work to erase the goal. Again, it was a penalty kick after a hard foul in the box. This time Kevin Eversole completed the play.

The Bulldogs were unable to get the tying goal, and fell 3-2.

Hazard stats: Goals: Gary Kilburn 1 and Kevin Eversole 1.
