MOUSIE — One man was shot and another arrested following a confrontation in Knott County Tuesday.
Troopers with the Kentucky State Police were called to the scene in the Mousie community after receiving a called that a male subject had been shot.
The victim, identified Wednesday morning as 24-year-old Travis Scott of Mousie, was walking through a yard owned by 28-year-old Hillard Smith when Smith confronted Scott with a handgun, according to a release from State Police. Following a brief confrontation, police say Smith opened fire, striking Scott in the lower abdomen.
Scott was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment. Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
