Vellis Hensley, Jr., 65, died Sunday, Oct. 7 at the hospice care center in Hazard.
He was born May 6, 1947 in Leslie County, the son of the late Vellis Hensley, Sr. and the late Mollie Maria Asher Hensley. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, Jeremy Todd Combs, and granddaughter Ashley Joyce Maria Hunley.
He was an electrician with the Blue Diamond Coal Company and Hazard Housing Authority, and had been a resident of Perry County for the last 18 years, a member of the Wooton Presbyterian Church, but had been attending the Airport Gardens Baptist Church for the last 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Hensley of Airport Gardens; sons Vellis Craig Hensley and wife Lynn of Clinton, Tn., Brendon Hensley of Airport Garde,ns and Mason Hensley of Airport Gardens; daughters Colressa Hunley and husband Alan of Greenville, Ky., Vellisa Hensley of Airport Gardens, Nadine Hensley of Hazard, Ky., Paige Hensley, and Karley-Rose Hensley of Airport Gardens; grandchildren Jonathan, Ashley, Anthony, Megan, Matthew,Tiffany, Paige, Maranda, Kaitlyn, Kayden, and Presley Todd; sister-in-heart Imogene Fee of Scottsburg, In.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Adam Feltner and Rev. James Hamblin officiating. The interment will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery located at Jeff. The visitation will be at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mountain Community Hospice.
