HAZARD – Thieves targeting a business in Hazard this week got away with more than $1,500 in equipment.

Deputy Chief Joe Engle said it appeared that more than one person was involved when the Scott Gross Company’s Hazard business, located just behind the WYMT-TV station in Hazard, was burglarized at 9 p.m. Thursday and two welders were stolen. He said that one welder was valued at $900, and the other at approximately $700.

It appears that the subjects used a pry tool to open the business’s front door, and once inside they quickly removed the pieces of equipment. They were gone before police arrived only four minutes after the alarm went off, according to a report by WYMT.

Engle told the Herald that because nothing else in the business was touched, it is likely that the thieves knew what they were looking for and were familiar with the store.

Police ask anyone with information into the theft to contact the Hazard Police Department at 436-2222.
