HAZARD – A Perry County man indicted on several charges after allegedly fleeing from police could serve up to five years in prison.
Scott Martin Kadik, 39, of Viper, was indicted in February after police said an investigation into identity theft in January 2012 led them to a local hotel where Kadik was apparently staying. When Hazard Police Det. Adam Baker made contact with him, he alleged that Kadik attempted to leave the scene. Baker reported that Kadik’s vehicle stalled and a fight ensued before Kadik was eventually subdued and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
Kadik is not facing any charges in relation to the HPD’s identity theft investigation, but was indicted on the following charges stemming from the incident in January: first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property over $10,000, criminal mischief, third-degree assault, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, second-degree fleeing or evading, giving an officer a false name, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Kadik entered a guilty plea as part of an agreement last month, according to court records, pleading guilty to an amended charge of receiving stolen property under $10,000, along with the remaining charges against him, for a total of five years to serve.
The jury trial, originally set for Nov. 19, was canceled, and Kadik is scheduled to be in court on Thursday afternoon for formal sentencing.
