On Thursday, the Buckhorn Wildcats kicked off their basketball season by hosting the Owsley County Owls. The game was tight throughout, with the Wildcats holding off the Owls 66-60.
The Wildcats gave way to the Owls in the first couple of minutes of the game, but quickly recovered to take the lead. Midway through the period, Buckhorn began to pull away, and by the horn they held the 16-9 lead.
Owsley County made a strong run early in the period, but once again, Buckhorn was able to fend them off. The two teams played even in the quarter, sending the Wildcats to the locker room with the 31-24 advantage.
Both teams came out of the break ready to set the tempo, forcing the pace. Neither team was able to steal the momentum, and again, the period ended with a tie. Going into the final period, Buckhorn's seven point lead was still in tack (48-41).
