On Friday, the Perry County Central Lady Commodores hosted the Australian Lady National Team. The Lady Commodores fought a tooth-and-nail battle with the Australians, and came away with a 63-53 win.

Perry Central jumped out to a big lead early, but could not stop a comeback by the Australian team. The Aussie’s got the final basket of the first period, and took the 16-15 lead.

Neither team was particularly on top of their game in the second period, but the Lady Commodores did manage a slight advantage. The advantage allowed Perry Central to go into the locker room with the 22-20 lead.

The pace picked back up in the third period, with neither team willing to give an inch. The period ended in a tie, preserving the Lady Commodores’ two-point lead (39-37).

Australia managed to cut the lead to a single basket several times in the fourth quarter, but each rally was cut short by the Lady Commodores. Perry Central was able to hit their free throws down the stretch, and clinched the 63-53 win.

Perry Central (63) Kayla Rankin 28, Whitney Back 11, Randi Carol Napier 7, Pam Sebastian 7, Perri Coots 8, Lyndci Combs 3 and Whitney Evans 3.

Australia (53) Whatman 10, Roditis 6, Rolph 8, Ohrdorf 17, Kirvan 6, Dykes 2 and Parker 4.
