Perry man injured when train derails in Virginia

A Perry County man was one of two Eastern Kentucky residents inside a van when it was hit during a train derailment this past weekend.

Jason Williams, 33, of Viper, was a passenger in the van, used to transport employees, when the train laden with coal derailed, landing on top of the vehicle, according a WYMT report. The derailment occurred at midnight on Sunday in Lee County, Va.

Williams was airlifted to the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tn., while a second passenger in the van, 31-year-old Jamie Collins of Baxter in Harlan County, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The television station reported that an investigation in ongoing, but no further details have been released.
