Customers at Bailey’s Tire Service in Wabaco are likely familiar with a project that the owner, Tim Watts, has been undertaking now for the past four years.
What he says has been a hobby of his during that time is actually quite an interesting sight for customers as they walk into the main office, and if they look up they can see where Watts has constructed a scale train track around the perimeter of the room.
The model is made of two tracks, one which runs around the entire perimeter, and the other which makes a sharp turn and traverses a scale wooden bridge spanning from one corner of the office to the other. The bridge alone, he said, took two months to complete, and he has even constructed small hills, adjacent roadways and even a small town for his elaborate model.
Watts, who noted that he had always had trains sets as a child, said he got the idea for the model after a friend offered to give him a train set. He already had one, and after he received several more cars, got to work on constructing the model inside his business.
Watts noted that the model is not yet complete, and that he continues to work on it when he gets the time. When asked when he thinks it might finally be done, he replied, “I have no idea.”
