GLOMAWR – Investigators are working to determine how a man died after his body was found underneath a bridge last week in Perry County.

Deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene after a caller reported that a person was possibly dead under the Glomawr bridge. Investigators with the Kentucky State Police were later called to the scene as well.

The man was positively identified as 44-year-old John J. Turner of Hazard, according to a press release issued by state police on Jan. 29.

Turner’s body was transported last week to the state medical examiner for an autopsy. Det. Kevin Hurt said on Monday that the medical examiner listed hypothermia and an apparent medical condition as factors in Turner’s death, but he is also awaiting the results of a toxicology test to determine what may have been in Turner’s system at the time of his death.

At present, Det. Hurt noted, it appears that Turner’s death was not a result of foul play.

“At this time there is nothing indicating that there was any foul play whatsoever,” he said.

Hurt added that it could take up to a month before the toxicology report is finalized.
