Jasper Combs, 70, of Viper, died Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Pikeville Medical Center.


He was a retired coal miner and son of the late Rado Combs and the late Mary Messer Combs, and was also preceded in death by sisters Betty Sumner and Corene Combs, and brother Calvin Combs.


He is survived by his wife, Wanda Combs; daughters Malissa Crabtree, Phyllis Sue Miller, Joanna Barker, Susan Jones, Christina Cosgrave, and Kayla Galeana-Flores; sons Anthony Wayne Combs, Clayton Allen Combs, Jasper Combs, Jr., and Tommy Joe Combs; sisters Irene Combs, Lorene Chaney, Earnestine Spencer, Edith Couch, Daisy Beverly, and Linda Sumner; brother Ray Combs; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.


Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31. Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1 with Karl Baker and J.C. Turner officiating. Interment will be at the Combs Family Cemetery in Viper.
