The R. W. Combs Mustangs and the Buckhorn Wildcats were the final two 8th grade teams standing with a shot to get into the finals. The games was close in the early going, but as the contest wore on, the Mustangs began to take control. R. W. Combs would use their early success to post the 43-23 win.

The Mustangs started strong, creating a small lead. However, the Wildcats came alive midway through and began to make up some ground. R. W. Combs finished off the period with the 16-10 lead.

Both teams slowed their pace in the second period, but with almost the same results as R. W. Combs added to their margin. Going into the locker room, the Mustangs sat on a 27-16 advantage.

Play got a little sloppy in the third period, with offense giving way to defense. The period ended in a five-all tie, leaving the R. W. Combs first half margin in tack (32-21).

Buckhorn was unable to put together the necessary run to avoid elimination, while R. W. Combs was able to ice the game with its defense. The Mustangs rode into the finals behind the 43-26 win.

R. W. Combs (43) Andrew Colwell 9, Caleb Beverly 4, Richard Cornett 12, Noah Back 16 and Tyler Hurt 2.

Buckhorn (26) Shannon Blank 2, Nick Stidham 9, Daniel Hurley 9, James Noble 2 and Josh Noble 4.
