by Tony McGuire
Early last week, the Perry County Central Commodores traveled to Breathitt County where they took on the Bobcats. The Commodores jumped out to the early lead, but could not pull away from a determined Bobcat team.
The Commodores were able to gain a little breathing room in the first period, finishing with a 17-11 lead. The Bobcats won the second period, but it was Perry Central that went into the locker room with the 27-22 lead.
Both teams came out strong in the third period, but neither could take control of the tempo. The period ended in a tie, sending the Commodores to the final frame with the five-point lead (43-38).
Breathitt County made a strong run at Perry Central in the fourth quarter, but were unable to break the Commodores’ hold on the lead. Perry Central was able to escape with the narrow 58-54 win.
