Perry cruises past Leslie for district title
The Perry County Central Commodores and the Leslie County Eagles hooked up Friday in the 54th district championship game. The Commodores jumped out to the early lead, but could not pull away for a comfortable win.
Perry Central came out strong, but could not put much space between them and Leslie County. At the end of the first period, the Commodores held the 15-10 lead.
The momentum finally swung the Commodores’ way in the second period as they used their defense to change the game. Perry Central won the battle of the period, and went into the intermission with the 31-18 advantage.
Leslie County came out strong in the third period, and began to cut into the Perry Central lead. However, when push came to shove, the Commodores were able to rebound. With eight minutes remaining to play, Perry Central held the 44-29 lead.
Again, Leslie County came out strong, and made a run at Perry Central. At the midway point, the Eagles had cut the margin to just 10 points.
Perry Central was able to answer the Eagle run and pulled away down the stretch. The Commodores went on to claim the title with the 63-44 win.
