Hazard Mayor Nan Gorman signed a proclamation this week proclaiming April as Autism Awareness Month in the city of Hazard. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) include three types of identifications, including Autism, Asperger Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Autism is the third most common developmental disability in the nation today, and according to the Centers for Disease Control, one in 88 children in the United States have been identified with an ASD. That figure is up from one in 110 children just last year. Mayor Gorman is pictured above with members of the Autism Support Group of Perry County.
