Man indicted on meth making charge
by Cris Ritchie
HAZARD – A Perry County man was indicted on charges that he was making methamphetamine after police say they found precursors and equipment to manufacture the drug inside his residence.
Deputies arrested 49-year-old James Ritchie in March at his home in Slemp. According to the arrest citation, police responded to 22 Ritchie Hollow after receiving several complaints about possible meth making activity in the area. After given permission to search the premises, police reportedly found a backpack containing approximately 10 items used for making meth. Ritchie was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
An indictment was returned in the case this past Friday, April 27 on charges of unlawful possession of a meth precursor and manufacturing methamphetamine, the latter a Class B felony carrying a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Ritchie’s bail was set at $100,000 plus home incarceration. He is currently scheduled for arraignment in Perry Circuit Court on May 30.
