A Knott County man was shot after he allegedly broke in to a residence in the Pippa Passes community on Saturday.
Troopers with the Kentucky State Police were called to the home on Highway 899 at 1:52 a.m. on June 29, according to a KSP release, while a man identified as Clyde Thomas was attempting to force his way inside the residence.
Police say he gained entry by breaking a glass door, and once inside he apparently fired several shots.
The homeowner, who was not identified, returned fire, striking Thomas several times. Thomas was transported to the Hazard ARH and later flown to the University of Kentucky medical center in Lexington.
The homeowner’s wife and daughter were also inside the residence at the time of break-in, though police say no one other than Thomas was injured in the incident.
Authorities did not release Thomas’s condition, but did note criminal charges are pending in the case as it remains under investigation.
