GRAPEVINE – Two people, one a pedestrian, were sent to the hospital following an accident involving multiple vehicles on Highway 28 in the Grapevine community.

Police on the scene said the accident occurred when the driver of a red Ford F-150 pickup apparently pulled out of the parking lot of Ben's Quick Stop and in front of a Toyota pickup that was traveling east on Ky. 28.

The driver of the Toyota was unable to avoid a collision, police said, and ricocheted off the Ford truck and into a Ford Taurus parked beside a gas pump. The Toyota came to a final rest after colliding with a white Ford van parked behind the Taurus. Police said a pedestrian was standing between the Taurus and the van and was momentarily trapped between the vehicles following the collision.

The driver of the Toyota and the pedestrian were transported to the Hazard ARH for treatment, and while authorities say their injuries did not appear to be life threatening, they did describe them as “serious.” Their identities have not been released.

Police do suspect the driver of the Ford pickup was under the influence at the time of the collision and say a DUI charge is likely. Other charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
