Further progress was made to the Appalachian Arts Alliance’s ArtStation building when the group had part of the building demolished June 4. The demolition work was necessary to move forward, said Downtown Coordinator Bailey Richards, an Appalachian Arts Alliance board member. “All we’re doing is that was an old addition that had become completely unusable anymore and it was unsafe, unstable and was about to fall down,” said Richards. “We need to put a new roof on the building and in order to do a new roof, we had to get rid of this part. We’re in the process of working with a couple of contractors to get the final estimates for the roof.” The area being torn down, she said, will soon be turned into a courtyard.
